Renfen received her PhD in Applied Linguistics in 2017 and has been a faculty member at Beijing Normal University since then. Her research spans computational linguistics, NLP for educational applications, and digital humanities. Recently, her work has focused on diachronic language evolution, large language model (LLM) evaluation and interpretability, Classical Chinese NLP, and second language writing assessment.
She has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers in leading NLP conferences and journals, and has collaborated with industry partners to develop real-world applications. Her research group has created a series of widely used language resources and text analysis tools, including Chinese Word Vectors (over 12k stars on Github); CCA, CLRA, and L2C-Cohesion for text complexity analysis; L2C-rater for automated essay scoring; and AI太炎(Taiyan) , an LLM for the translation and annotation of Classical Chinese.
